The company was founded in the 1920's to service the shipbuilding and heavy engineering requirements of industrial Clydeside. With steam boilers being much in demand, the company acquired various agencies to service these requirements which continues to the present day with the supply of jointing materials and compounds. Agencies followed for instrumentation, including pressure, water level, and temperature gauges, together with bin level and engine indicators and their associated instrumentation.

A comprehensive supply, inspection, testing and repair service is provided for both hydraulic and pneumatic tools and equipment. The company acts as main distributors and authorised repairers for major hydraulic, pneumatic and instrumentation equipment manufacturers. In addition a hire service of such equipment is also provided.

Drawing on considerable experience in it's field, the company is able to effect repairs or conversions to unusual or obsolete equipment. It also arranges modification of standard equipment to meet our customers special applications.

The company operates from a modern industrial unit equipped and stocked to a standard approved by the main equipment manufacturers. The workshop is staffed by fully trained engineers, and is equipped for the test and certification of hydraulic cylinders and jacking units up tp 150 tons capacity and torquing equipment up to 7,000 Nm. The company also operates a pressure gauge and instrument repair, calibration and testing facility, with certification traceable back to National Standards.

Formerly trading as Smail Sons & Co. Ltd. In mid 1994, following a management buy-out the company is now trading as Smail Engineers (Glasgow) Limited maintaining it's broad customer base located throughout the UK and Europe. It's goods and services being deployed in an extremely wide industrial and educational spectrum.
